What is the Magic Wand color remover?

This tool removes a color-based selection from an image without deleting every copy of that color by default. Click inside the area you want to remove and Connected selection follows neighboring pixels that are similar to the sampled color. This makes it useful for flat backgrounds, product cutouts, logos, scanned artwork, signatures, icons, and screenshots.

The browser creates an editable selection preview. The server then validates the original image and selection mask, applies edge growth or shrink and feathering, preserves the original dimensions and alpha channel, and exports only a transparent PNG.

How to remove one color area

  1. Upload a JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, or JFIF image up to 20 MB and 12 megapixels.
  2. Keep Connected area selected, then click or tap the color region you want to remove.
  3. Adjust Color tolerance until the red selection overlay covers the intended pixels without spilling into the subject.
  4. Use Add to include another region, Subtract to repair an over-selected region, or Invert when you want to keep the sampled area and remove everything else.
  5. Adjust Edge grow or shrink and Feather. The Removed preview updates live in the same editor canvas.
  6. Choose Remove Selected Area to replace that canvas with the exact server result, then download the transparent PNG.

Selection and edge controls

  • Connected selection removes only the clicked neighboring region by default.
  • All matching colors mode can select similar pixels throughout the image when required.
  • New, Add, Subtract, Invert, Clear, Undo, and Redo controls support careful refinement.
  • One-pixel, 3 by 3, and 5 by 5 sampling helps with clean fills and lightly noisy photos.
  • Feathering creates a softer transparent transition instead of a visibly hard cut.
  • Edge grow or shrink helps include color fringes or protect foreground detail.
  • The final server-rendered preview and downloaded PNG use the same processed mask.

Remove color from image FAQ

Does it remove every matching color?

Not by default. Connected area mode selects only neighboring pixels attached to the clicked point. Choose All matching colors only when you intentionally want matching pixels across the complete image.

What does tolerance control?

Tolerance controls how different a pixel may be from the sampled color and still join the selection. Low values are precise; higher values include a wider range of shades.

How do I avoid a sharp cut edge?

Increase Feather for a soft alpha transition. If a color halo remains, grow the selection slightly before feathering. If subject detail is removed, shrink the selection or subtract that region.

Which output format is available?

The tool exports PNG only because PNG supports the transparency created by deleting the selected pixels.

Can it remove a complex photographic background?

It works best when the unwanted area has a reasonably consistent color. For hair, detailed scenery, or mixed-color backgrounds, use the AI Background Remover instead.

Are uploaded images kept permanently?

The source and mask are temporary processing files and are deleted after the request succeeds or fails. Generated outputs follow the site's normal download-retention process.
