What is the Meme Generator?
The Meme Generator turns your own image into a shareable meme by placing custom text at the top and bottom of the picture.
Classic Overlay keeps the captions inside the image with a configurable outline. Caption Bars add dedicated colored areas above and below the image, which is useful when text must not cover the subject.
Preview and download use the same browser canvas renderer. The uploaded image is processed in the current browser session instead of being sent to the meme-processing endpoint.
How to create a meme
- Choose or drag a JPG, PNG, WebP, or JFIF image up to 25 MB and 20 megapixels.
- Enter the top caption, bottom caption, or both. Long captions wrap automatically and reduce in size when necessary.
- Choose Classic Text Overlay or Caption Bars, then select the font style and text alignment.
- Customize text color, outline color, canvas or bar color, uppercase behaviour, maximum text size, outline width, and padding.
- Inspect the live preview. It uses the same line layout and canvas drawing logic as the downloaded result.
- Choose PNG, JPG, or WebP and click Create Meme. Download the file or continue it in a related image tool.
Meme Generator benefits
- Use your own image instead of selecting from a restricted template library.
- Add independent top and bottom captions with a 180-character limit for each field.
- Automatically wrap long text and reduce the rendered font size only when the selected maximum does not fit.
- Choose a classic outlined overlay or separate caption bars that keep text away from the image subject.
- Control font style, alignment, text color, outline color, outline width, padding, uppercase conversion, and canvas background.
- Export PNG, JPG, or WebP using reliable browser-canvas output without a compression-quality control.
- Carry the generated meme directly into Compressor, Resizer, Watermark, or Image to PDF.
- Changing any caption or style clears the previous download and next-tool result so stale output cannot be reused.
Meme Generator FAQ
Can I use my own image to create a meme?
Yes. Upload a supported JPG, JPEG, JFIF, PNG, or WebP image and add your own top and bottom captions.
What is the difference between Overlay and Caption Bars?
Overlay places outlined text directly over the image. Caption Bars create colored areas above and below the image so the captions do not cover the subject.
What happens when the caption is too long?
The tool wraps the caption across multiple lines. When the selected maximum text size is too large for the available area, the renderer gradually reduces it until the caption fits.
Does the preview match the downloaded meme?
Yes. Both use the same browser canvas layout, text wrapping, font settings, alignment, colors, outline, padding, and image placement.
Which output formats are available?
The generated meme can be downloaded as PNG, JPG, or WebP.
Why is there no compression-quality slider?
This tool focuses on meme creation. It exports high-quality files and recommends the dedicated Image Compressor when a smaller file is needed.
Is my image uploaded to the meme-processing server?
The active meme creation and export workflow runs in the browser canvas. A generated meme is transferred only when you explicitly continue to another tool.
What are the image limits?
The browser workflow accepts one supported image up to 25 MB and 20 megapixels.
