What is the Image Background Color Changer?
The Image Background Color Changer replaces an existing transparent or simple connected background with a selected color while keeping the image dimensions unchanged.
Auto Detect fills transparent pixels when meaningful transparency is present. For opaque images, it detects matching connected areas from the image edges. Click-to-sample mode lets you choose the exact connected background area to replace.
This tool is intended for transparent images and solid or lightly shaded connected backgrounds. Detailed photo scenes, hair, objects, and mixed backgrounds should first use the dedicated AI Background Remover.
How to change an image background color
- Choose or drag a JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, or JFIF image up to 25 MB and 20 megapixels.
- Select Auto Detect for the recommended behaviour, Fill Transparent Areas for a transparent image, Replace Connected Edge Background for a simple solid background, or Click Image to Pick Background.
- Choose the new background color with the color control or enter an exact HEX value.
- For an opaque background, adjust tolerance only when the connected background is not fully selected or too much of the subject is included.
- Inspect the live original and result views. In Pick mode, click the background area you want to replace.
- Choose PNG, JPG, or WebP and click Change Background. Download the generated result or continue it in another related image tool.

Tolerance controls how different a connected pixel may be from the detected or picked background sample. Increase it gradually for shadows or slight color variations. Reduce it when subject pixels are also selected.
Does the tool replace every matching color in the image?
No. Solid-background modes replace connected regions starting from image edges or the clicked sample. Similar colors inside disconnected subject areas are protected.
When should I use AI Background Remover instead?
