What is the Image Color Picker?
The Image Color Picker lets designers, developers, marketers, students, and content creators upload an image and inspect the exact color of any visible pixel. Move over the image for a live preview, then click to lock a color and copy its HEX, RGB, HSL, HSV, or CMYK value.
The tool also extracts a dominant color palette from the image. You can choose the number of palette colors, review each color percentage, copy CSS variables, and export the palette as JSON, CSV, or PNG.
Exact pixel picking runs in the browser. Dominant palette extraction validates the uploaded image, limits file size and dimensions, analyzes visible pixels, and removes the temporary upload after processing.
How to use the Image Color Picker
- Choose or drag a JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, GIF, or JFIF image up to 25 MB.
- Move over the preview to inspect a live color and pixel coordinate. Use zoom and exact-pixel or area-average sampling when needed.
- Click the image to lock a color. Copy HEX, RGB, HSL, HSV, or CMYK values and keep up to 12 picked colors in the session history.
- Choose between 3 and 12 palette colors, then click Extract dominant colors.
- Copy the palette as CSS variables or export JSON, CSV, or a palette PNG.
- After analysis, select a related next tool. The same image is loaded automatically without another manual upload.
Benefits of this image color tool
- Pick an exact pixel or use a 3 by 3 or 5 by 5 average for noisy photographs.
- Copy HEX, RGB, HSL, HSV, and CMYK values with one click.
- See the original image coordinate for every live or selected color.
- Save recent picked colors and reuse a palette color as the current selection.
- Extract 3 to 12 dominant colors while ignoring fully transparent pixels.
- Review average visible color and dominant color percentages.
- Export palette data as CSS variables, JSON, CSV, or PNG.
- Continue the uploaded image in background, compression, resize, crop, watermark, or PDF tools.
- No compressor-quality or output-format controls are shown because they are unrelated to color picking.
Image Color Picker FAQ
How do I pick a HEX color from an image?
Upload the image, move over the preview, and click the required pixel. The HEX value appears with RGB, HSL, HSV, CMYK, and the original pixel coordinate.
What is the difference between exact pixel and area average?
Exact pixel reads one source pixel. The 3 by 3 and 5 by 5 options average nearby pixels, which is useful for photographs, anti-aliased edges, and textured areas.
Does the tool preserve transparent image colors?
Yes. Pixel picking reports the source color and alpha level. Dominant palette extraction ignores fully transparent pixels so invisible colors do not dominate the result.
Can I export the extracted palette?
Yes. Copy CSS variables or download the palette as JSON, CSV, or a PNG swatch image.
Can I use the same image in another tool?
Yes. After palette extraction, choose a recommended next tool. The image is stored temporarily in browser storage and loaded automatically into the destination input.
What image limits are supported?
The maximum upload size is 25 MB and the maximum image size is 40 megapixels. JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, GIF, and JFIF files are supported.
Is the Image Color Picker free?
Yes. Pixel picking, palette extraction, copying, exports, and next-tool handoff are available without a watermark.
