RFC 9562 UUID generation and inspection
The generator creates secure random UUID v4, deterministic namespace UUID v5, legacy Gregorian-time UUID v1, reordered time UUID v6, Unix-millisecond UUID v7, and the standard Nil and Max values.
The validator normalizes standard, compact, braced GUID, and UUID URN input, then reports canonical text, version, variant, bytes, timestamp, node field, and a practical use note without uploading identifiers.
How to generate or validate UUIDs
- Choose UUID v4 for random IDs, v7 for modern time ordering, v5 for deterministic names, or another supported layout for interoperability.
- Choose a quantity up to 1,000, or enter one UTF-8 name per line with a standard or custom namespace for UUID v5.
- Select standard, compact, braced GUID, or URN text and lines, JSON, CSV, or SQL batch output.
- Generate the batch and verify the exact output, count, uniqueness, version, variant, format, and output size.
- Copy or download the visible result, or switch to Validate and Inspect to analyze an existing identifier.
One UUID workspace for application and database workflows
- Generate UUID v4 with Web Crypto randomness and the required RFC version and variant bits.
- Create session-monotonic UUID v7 values with Unix-millisecond ordering and 74 bits of randomized counter state.
- Generate stable UUID v5 values from DNS, URL, OID, X.500, or custom UUID namespaces and UTF-8 names.
- Use randomized multicast node identifiers for browser-generated UUID v1 and v6 without exposing a hardware address.
- Export the exact visible batch for fixtures, APIs, CSV files, JSON data, or SQL value lists.
UUID Generator FAQ
Which UUID version should I use?
Use v4 for general random identifiers, v7 for time-ordered database keys, and v5 when the same namespace and name must always produce the same UUID. Use v1 or v6 mainly for interoperability.
Are UUID v4 values cryptographically random?
Yes. The browser Web Crypto source fills 122 random bits after the required version and variant fields are set.
Does UUID v1 reveal my MAC address?
No. Browsers cannot access a device MAC address, so the generator uses a random multicast node value permitted by RFC 9562.
Is UUID v7 strictly ordered across every device?
No. Values are monotonic within the current generator session and millisecond. Independent devices and libraries share the time prefix but do not coordinate their random fields.
Can a UUID be used as an access token?
A UUID is an identifier, not an authorization secret. Use a purpose-built cryptographic token for authentication or unguessable capabilities.
